ABOUT US

Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers is a diverse group of people from all walks of life and fitness levels. You can find us on the weekends running and walking the trails around Lake Grapevine every Saturday and Sunday morning.

Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers has an outstanding reputation for community involvement, generosity, having fun, and the ability to put on a great race.

We are funded by membership dues and our two annual races, Bold in the Cold 5K/15K held each January and Double Trouble 5K & 10K held each fall. Both races have a stellar history of being well-organized and popular within the running community.

Throughout the club’s history, LGRAW has donated more than $150,000 to several non-profits, as well as our own LGRAW College Scholarship. We work to improve the Grapevine parks and trail systems through the city's Adopt-A-Park program and clean-up initiatives with Keep Grapevine Beautiful.

We are a 501(c)(3) running club.

RUNNER FRIENDLY COMMUNITY

In 2012, the city of Grapevine was designated as a Runner Friendly Community® by the Road Runners Club of America. The goals of the Runner Friendly Community program are to shine a national spotlight on communities that increase the quality of life, improve physical activity for residents and provide an increased economic impact for the community.

RAW has had a positive impact on the city’s health and fitness throughout the club’s 20+ year existence. Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers, then President Kathryn Gleghorn worked with Grapevine’s Parks and Recreation to ensure that RAW’s application included all the latest information about what the city offers in the way of running paths, trails and city support to make Grapevine a Runner Friendly Community.

An optional part of the application was to submit a video highlighting how the community meets some or all of the Runner Friendly Community criteria outlined by the RRCA. Dennis Dixon spent many hours filming and taking photos to put together our video, “Running all through Grapevine.”  We were lucky enough to find a local vocal coach, Stefani Little Lynes to record Dennis’s lyrics to the Marvin Gaye, “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.” classic, “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.”

In 2018, the Runner Friendly Community designation renewal application was approved, extending the designation through 2023.
