2021 Board of Director Nominees
While I still consider myself a newcomer to LGRAW, I have enjoyed serving alongside the other members of the Board this past year as your Membership Director. It has been rewarding, especially as we navigated through this strange year we have had, to support the activities of LGRAW.
As President, I would focus my efforts on continuing to build and strengthen LGRAW, continuing what K2 and many others have done before her, in promoting our club among the greater Grapevine area and surrounding communities. I know my life changed for the better not only when I started running (just five years ago) but when we relocated to TX and I found LGRAW. I'm passionate about encouraging people to be active, and have found LGRAW to be a great place to "exercise" that passion. I look forward to continuing to see more people embrace that passion as well as become active members of LGRAW.
I’m interested in running for the board to give back to the organization that has supported my running for many years and provided a long list of friends. I hope to maintain the current high standards of the club. I’ve volunteered for water duty, at races and I served on the 2021 Budget Committee. I started running on a $50 bet with my uncle over 40 years ago! I won that bet and got much more than $50 in return.
Married with one daughter, two dogs, and a cat. I have a master’s degree in Information Management. I have run in many races including marathon distances. These days, I mostly enjoy walking and 5K races. I am often seen with my Collie or Britney dogs. Thus, my club nickname is “Dog Dude”.
I am running for a second term as LGRAW’s Assistant Treasurer. In prior years, I have served on the BOD as VP, Secretary, and Director. I have volunteered for various LGRAW roles. For more than 10-years now, I have helped with race timing at LGRAW race start and finish lines. I was the LGRAW Navy Admiral for a decade.
I love running! I like running both roads and trails and have run lots of races from 5Ks to ultramarathons. Currently I am working on finishing the six World Marathon Majors with only Berlin and London left! I am interested in helping the club engage with its current members and bringing in new members. I’m an RRCA certified coach. I actively volunteer for water duty, at RAW races and with the Shoes4Funds shoe collection and shipping.
I am a past board member, Bold in the Cold (BITC) Race Director, BITC and Double Trouble volunteer coordinator and frequent water duty volunteer. I’m interested in joining a good group of people to further the interests of the club. I hope to bring the insights I’ve gained from my previous experiences; honest feedback; attention to detail; dry humor and homemade baklava. As for my running, I’m getting slower and I was never fast to begin with! I think I’m funny but my husband, “D” is funnier. Seriously though, I’d love to be on the board again and I truly enjoy learning from the diversity in experiences and thoughts of our members.
Editor’s note: Sakina was the recipient of the 2016 Best Foot Forward.
